Getting to the Festival

Road closures

Select roads will be closed throughout the festival precinct at different times over the weekend: 

  • 6am Wednesday April 17 until 11pm Sunday April 21
    Sidney Myer Place between Pall Mall and Rosalind Park
     
  • 6am Thursday April 18 until 6am Monday April 22
    William Vahland Place between Pall Mall and Rosalind Park
    Mundy Street between Pall Mall and Lyttleton Terrace, and Hargraves Street between Mundy Street and Bendigo Bowling Centre
     
  • 5pm Thursday April 18 until 6pm Sunday April 21
    Bridge Street, Park Road, Farmers Lane
     
  • 6am Saturday April 20 until 6am Monday April 22
    Bull Street between Pall Mall and Hargreaves Street
     
  • O’Brien Electrical Bendigo Torchlight Procession and Bendigo Advertiser Gala Parade - View Street, Pall Mall, McCrae Street, Chapel Street and Bridge Street closed from 4pm Saturday April 20 until approximately 6pm Sunday April 21.

There will be various detours around the central business district so please follow the road signs.
 

Public Transport

Public transport will operate over the Easter weekend. Visit the PTV website for details.

Festival activities will require a number of bus stop closures and subsequent route detours. The below bus services will be affected from 4pm Saturday April 20 until 6pm Sunday April 21 to accommodate the O’Brien Bendigo orchlight Procession and the Bendigo Advertiser Gala Parade:

Route 5 Kangaroo Flat – Huntly via Bendigo Station

  • From Huntly will detour via McCrae St, Baxter St, Hargreaves St, Chapel St, Myers St, Mitchell St to Bendigo Train Station.
  • From train station will detour via Mitchell St, Queen St, Short St, High St to Kangaroo Flat via normal route.

Route 50 Epsom Station – Bendigo Station

  • From Epsom will detour via Barnard St, Don St, Myrtle St, Hargreaves St, Mitchell St to Bendigo Train Station.
  • From train station will detour via Mitchell St, Queen St, Myrtle St, Don St, Barnard St to Epsom via normal route.

Route 51 Bendigo Station – Eaglehawk via Jackass Flat

  • From Eaglehawk will detour via Lucan St, Arnold St, McCrae St, Baxter St, Hargreaves St, Chapel St, Myers St, Mitchell St to Bendigo Train Station.
  • From Bendigo Train Station will detour via Mitchell St, Myers St, Chapel St, Hargreaves St, Baxter St, McCrae St, Arnold St, Lucan St to Epsom via normal route.

Route 52 Bendigo Station – Eaglehawk via Arnold St

  • From Eaglehawk will detour via Holmes Rd, Arnold St, Baxter St, Hargraves St, Chapel St, Myers St, Mitchell St, Queen St, Myrtle St, Don St and Barnard St.
  • From train station will detour via Mitchell St, Queen St, Myrtle St, Don St, Barnard St, Arnold St to Eaglehawk via normal route

Route 53 Bendigo Station – Eaglehawk via Eaglehawk Road

  • From Eaglehawk will travel detour via Eaglehawk Rd, Don St, Myrtle St, Hargreaves St, Mitchell St to train station.
  • From train station will travel detour via Mitchell St, Queen St, Wattle St, Hargraves St, Myrtle St, Don St, Eaglehawk Rd to Eaglehawk via normal route.

Route 54 Bendigo Station – Maiden Gully via Calder Highway

  • From Maiden Gully will detour via View St, Barnard St, Don St, Myrtle St, Hargreaves St, Mitchell St to Bendigo train station.
  • From Bendigo train station will detour via Mitchell St, Queen St, Myrtle St, Don St, Barnard St, View St to Maiden Gully via normal route.

Route 55 Bendigo Station – Kangaroo Flat via Golden Square

  • From Kangaroo Flat will detour via High St, Myrtle St, Hargreaves St, Mitchell St to Bendigo Train Station.
  • From Bendigo Train Station will detour via Mitchell St, Queen St, Myrtle St, High St to Kangaroo Flat via normal route.

Route 60 Bendigo Station – East Bendigo via Strickland Rd

  • From East Bendigo will detour via McIvor Rd, Myers St, Mitchell St to train station.
  • From Bendigo Train Station will detour via Mitchell St, Myers St, McIvor Rd to East Bendigo via normal route.

Route 61 Bendigo Station – La Trobe University via Strathdale

  • From Strathdale will detour via McIvor Rd, Myers St, Mitchell St to train station.
  • From Bendigo Train Station will detour via Mitchell St, Myers St, McIvor Rd to Strathdale via normal route.

Route 70 Bendigo Station – Strathfieldsaye

  • From Strathfieldsaye will detour via Williamson St, Myers St, Mitchell St to Bendigo Train Station.
  • From Bendigo Train Station will detour via Mitchell St, Myers St, Williamson St to Strathfieldsaye via normal route.

Please note: The main inbound bus stop at Mitchell Street will be moved up one block to Chemist Warehouse. Main outbound bus stop will be moved to Mitchell Street between King Street and Wills Street at Captain Snooze. Pall Mall and McCrae St bus stops will be closed ALL day. Bendigo Railway Station bus stops will operate as normal.

 

Parking

Park 'n' Ride with Bendigo Tramways
4 day Easter Talking Tram Ticket: 19 - 22 April 2019

Travel into town in true Bendigo style this Easter with the specially discounted Easter Weekend Tram Ticket. Park at either end of the tram line to avoid road closures and parking woes.

  • Free all day parking is available at Central Deborah Gold Mine or the Bendigo Joss House Temple
  • Hop-on and off the trams as often as you like throughout the Easter Long Weekend.
  • Your ticket is valid from Good Friday to Easter Monday (19-22 April).
  • Your ticket also includes access to the Easter Sunday Bendigo Advertiser Gala Parade Shuttle Tram service (details below)
  • Tickets cost $12.00 per adult/concession; $6.00 per child, children 4 and under are free, and $28.00 per family (2 adults and up to 4 children)

Easter Sunday Shuttle Trams: 21 April 2019
Park your car at Central Deborah Gold Mine, the Bendigo Joss House Temple or Lake Weeroona and catch a Shuttle Tram to and from the Bendigo Advertiser Gala Parade.

  • Shuttle Trams will depart every 20 minutes from 9:10am - 5:00pm.
  • Shuttle Trams will operate from Central Deborah Gold Mine to Alexandra Fountain, and from the Bendigo Joss House Temple to Chapel Street. 
  • Shuttle Trams cost $3.00 per person per trip. Purchase your ticket on board the tram.
  • Shuttle Trams are included within the Easter 4 day Talking Tram Ticket.
  • There will not be any commentary playing on board the Shuttle Trams.

Car Parking

During the festival, two multi-story car parks will be open free of charge:

  • Hargreaves Street (opposite Bendigo Library)
  • Edward Street (Cnr of Edward Street and Queen Street)

Hours of operations:

  • Good Friday: 6am - 6pm
  • Saturday: 7am - 10.30pm
  • Easter Sunday: 6am - 6pm
  • Easter Monday: 6am - 6pm


Please note the following car parks will be closed at times during the festival: 

  • The McCrae Street car park will be closed from 5pm Thursday April 18 until 6pm Sunday April 21
  • The Queen Elizabeth Oval car park will be closed from 6am Saturday April 20 until 6pm Sunday April 21 for parade assembly.


The City of Greater Bendigo recently launched the new Spot Parking App, it's a great way to locate parking options around Bendigo.
 

Bus and Long Haul Parking

Bus and long haul parking will be available at:

  • Tom Flood Sports Centre*
  • Bath Lane
  • Hopetoun Street

*Please note that the Tom Flood Sports Centre will have no entry or exist on Sunday 7.30.- 10pm and Sunday 12.30pm - 4pm due to parades.
 

Bike Parking
Why not jump on your bike, ride to the festival and avoid the hassle of parking a car? We are providing a designated area for bike parking in Rosalind Park (View Street end), allowing you more time to explore the festival precinct.

The bike parking area is available from 10am - 5pm Friday, Saturday and Sunday. This area is unsupervised so remember to bring your bike locks and don't forget your helmet.

 

Accessible Parking

A number of car parks will be available specifically for accessible users close to the festival precinct in the following locations:

  • St Andrews Avenue
  • Hargreaves Street (access via Edward Street)
  • Bath Lane (access via Edward Street)
  • Tom Flood Sports Centre*

McCrae Street will also host accessibility parking during parade times only. Please present your disability parking permit to traffic controller at the road closure point.

Disability parking permits should be displayed at all times whilst utilising these parking spaces.
